Chronicle of a deaf audiologist

LACE AI Pro Coaching Notes #7

Are you breezing through the Working Memory exercises in LACE AI?

If so, add some background noise. The type of noise is important—choose verbal noise, such as the radio or people talking in the background.  If you can systematically adjust the verbal noise to be louder or softer, that would be optimal. Find that sweet spot where the task is challenging but not impossible. If you miss one or two questions, you’ll know you are near your threshold for the task. Training at or near your threshold is the best way to spend your training time.

Why is working memory important? Working memory can improve with training. A higher working memory capacity will lead to better speech perception in noise. Research indicates that working memory capacity has a significant impact on the benefits a person receives from hearing aids, particularly in challenging listening situations.
