Are you finding the Missing Word exercises in LACE AI a breeze? If so, let’s kick things up a notch. Try choosing Treatment > Mumbled instead of Fill in the blank—it’s not only tougher, but it also feels more like what you’ll encounter in everyday conversations.
To get the most out of your training, head to Voices, uncheck the system voices, and pick familiar voices. Don’t forget to save your choices! If you haven’t set up familiar voices yet, check out LACE Coaching Notes #2 for help.
Another tip: turn the volume down a bit below your usual Lace training level. And if you want to add an extra challenge, introduce some background noise. The kind of noise matters—go for verbal noise, like a radio. If you can, adjust the loudness of the verbal noise to find that perfect balance: hard enough to push you, but not so tough that it’s discouraging.

If you get one or two questions wrong, you’re probably right at your sweet spot. Training at or near this threshold is where you’ll see the greatest improvement.
Why bother with Missing Word exercises? The main goal is to keep you engaged in a structured listening activity that strengthens your word-finding and meaning-guessing skills. Just remember, if it’s too easy, you’re not getting the full benefit.
