Chronicle of a deaf audiologist

LACE AI Coaching Notes #3

With LACE AI Pro, there is no notification about an upcoming change in topic, which is the way conversations typically unfold in real life!

For Rapid Speech and Speech in Noise activities, training will be easier if you keep an eye on the topic and when it is about to change. Conversely, you can make the training session harder by ignoring this information in the upper part of the screen.

At the top left of the screen, you will see the topic, and at the top right, the trial number. There are 30 trials and six topics for each training session. The first topic runs from 0-4, the second from 5-9, and so on.

In the screenshot above, you can see that I should expect a new topic on the next trial, as I am about to start #4 out of 30.  “Canada” is my first topic, and next up is “Vocabulary Builder.”

The topics are presented in the same order as they appear in the selection screen. This order will remain until I change topics.

To change the topics, tap Train > Continue > Select up to 6 subjects > Save.

The Working Memory activities operate differently. You are given a scenario (such as “Plumbing Scenario”) at the beginning of each set of questions. That’s your topic.

Note that some topics are inherently easier or more difficult. For example, the Vocabulary Builder topic has a predictable format. There’s a word, and then the definition of it. The Philosophy Quotes topic is hard (for me) because philosophers can philosophize about anything in the universe!
